Journal Entry #11: Veja Flood Ad

This advertisement is for a Smartphone app that is for a magazine. The app uses the tagline “feel the news”. This ad stood out to me because it reminded me of our photoshop project using a metaphor to display something. It shows a finger with wrinkles like one gets when they go swimming. It shows an iPad with a magazine headline reading “The Flood Problems in Sao Paolo”. I thought this idea was clever because it’s tagline goes along with the message of the news.

To create this ad, I think it is safe to say they used photoshop. They probably used tools like pucker and bloat and to create the wrinkles on the hand, or simply photoshopped wrinkles from another finger onto that finger. It is also possible that they took their own photograph of a wrinkled finger. They cut this finger out and set it on a background with a grey radial gradient, added a picture of an iPad and their app logo overlapping it, and added simple text.

I think texture played a huge roll in this add, because if it weren’t for texture the wrinkles of the hand would not be there, and the witty message could not be displayed.
