Journal Entry #17: Veja Oil Advertisement

This is another advertisement for the news app “Veja”. This time, on the iPad screen one can see a story about an oil spill and it’s effects on the environment. This company sticks with the same tagline of “Feel the news”. In this case, the same finger picture is incorporated in the ad but with what seems to be oil on the tip of the pointer finger. The ad still has the app’s logo and minimal type on the page.

To create this ad, they may have created a style sheets and master pages from the other ad. To create the oil on the finger, they could have gotten an image of dripping oil and cut out the shape of the finger from that image. If you notice, there is a small fingerprint in the oil. To create this, they could have found an image of a fingerprint, made it white, and put it on the finger. They then could have used the brush tool in black to smudge around the fingerprint and add more oil to it so it is faint. This was once again placed on a radial background.

As in the other ad for this company, texture is a massive component in this advertisement. The oil pops off the page and it is as if you can touch it and your finger will get slimy. They had to pay very close attention to the edges of the oil to make sure they were extremely smooth and slick.
